The Collapse of an Axi-symmetric, Swirling Vortex Sheet

چکیده
An axi-symmetric and swirling vortex sheet is investigated as the simplest ow in which there is non-trivial vortex stretching and as a possible setting for studying vortex cancellation and singularity formation. Rayleigh's criterion indicates linear stability of a single sheet but instability for other conngurations of sheets. Due to the simplicity of vortex sheet problems, the linear modes and growth rates (or frequencies) can be explicitly expressed. Subsequent nonlinear evolution is numerically simulated using a vortex method. The numerical results 1 for an axi-symmetric swirling sheet with a vortex line along the axis of symmetry show detachment of a vortex ring from the sheet into the outer uid, and collapse of the sheet onto the vortex line at some points. Vortex cancellation, which in the presence of viscosity would likely lead to vortex line reconnection, seems to occur in both of these phenomena. The evolution of two co-axial, axi-symmetric, swirling vortex sheets is similar.

The cup drawing is a basic deep drawing process. Thus, understanding the mechanics ofthe cup drawing process helps in determining the general parameters that affect the deep drawingprocess. There are mainly two methods of analysis; experimental and analytical/numerical.Experimental analysis can be useful in analyzing the process to determine the process parameters thatproduce a defect free prod...
متن کاملApplication of Adaptive Quadrature to Axi-symmetric Vortex Sheet Motion
Studies of the formation of ne structures on free-surfaces in liquids, such as curvature singularities or interface pinching, demand that the motion of the interface must be computed very accurately. Boundary integral techniques are a popular choice in such studies because they reduce the dimension of the problem by one. On the other hand, the boundary integrals are singular, and their accurate...

The general solution of equations of saturated porous media with incompressible fluid for two dimensional axi-symmetric problem is obtained in the transformed domain. The Laplace and Hankel transforms have been used to investigate the problem. As an application of the approach concentrated source and source over circular region have been taken to show the utility of the approach. The transforme...

In this paper, results are presented on asymmetric sloshing in partially filled circular cylinders subjected to horizontal, periodic forcing, as well as geyser formation and the subsequent axi-symmetric sloshing that is caused by a sudden change in Bond number. Asymmetric sloshing is controlled by three parameters that are the liquid depth parameter, the frequency offset (depending on forcing f...
متن کاملAxi-symmetric Stagnation–Point Flow and Heat Transfer Obliquely Impinging on a Rotating Circular Cylinder
Laminar stagnation flow, axi-symmetrically yet obliquely impinging on a rotating circular cylinder, as well as its heat transfer is formulated as an exact solution of the Navier-Stokes equations. Rotational velocity of the cylinder is time-dependent while the surface transpiration is uniform and steady. The impinging stream is composed of a rotational axial flow superposed onto irrotational rad...
